Introducing the Zenith Chronomaster Solo Sport Watch
Among the four new Solo Sport watches launched at Geneva Watchmaking Days, the Solo Sport omits the chronograph function.
The Zenith El Primero movement, now over six decades old and one of the industry's most prestigious movements, remains at the heart of Zenith products. To celebrate Geneva Watchmaking Days, Zenith has ingeniously launched a Chronomaster Sport watch without a chronograph function—the Chronomaster Solo Sport. This watch is available in four versions: three with black, white, and brown ceramic dials and bezels, and one black version without a date display.
All four watches feature a 40mm stainless steel case with a unidirectional rotating ceramic bezel. The dial displays hours, minutes, and seconds, with three models also including a date display. Despite the absence of a chronograph function, the dial design remains rich and varied. The inscription "36,000 VpH" and "High Frequency" occupy two lines on the dial, while the understated "shark tooth" minute markers pay homage to classic Zenith watches.

The dial itself is made of ceramic, centered around a repeating 45° Z-shaped pattern designed to evoke the rhythm and vibrations of the movement—the white version features a sunburst finish, while the black and brown versions have a polished surface. The same pattern extends to the weights of the seconds hand.
This watch is powered by the El Primero 3620 movement, derived from the El Primero 3600 chronograph movement, with a frequency of 5 Hz (36,000 vibrations per hour) and retaining the star-shaped rotor. It features a silicon escapement and a stop-seconds mechanism for precise time setting and offers a 60-hour power reserve.
Furthermore, this watch features the new Zenclasp folding clasp, which debuted at Watches & Wonders 2026 and is now standard. It allows for tool-free fine-tuning, with the strap length adjustable in 2.5mm increments, up to a maximum adjustment range of 10mm. The clasp's locking mechanism consists of 41 components, 10 of which are ceramic ball bearings, further enhancing its security.
A Chronomaster watch equipped with an El Primero movement but lacking a chronograph function raises far more questions than answers. This movement exists precisely to complement the chronograph function, not as something unrelated to it. Removing a chronograph function from a watch with such an exceptional pedigree seems almost contradictory. This situation is not unprecedented—since 2022, a slightly modified El Primero 3620 movement has been used in the Defy Skyline watch, which lacks a chronograph function. But, at least in my opinion, it's more suitable for the Defy Skyline than the Chronomaster.
As a watch in itself, the Solo Sport is a well-proportioned and exquisitely crafted timepiece—the case, strap, and Zenclasp buckle are all thoughtfully designed, making it a reliable choice for those who don't want to pay extra for a chronograph.
